Peer Review #1

For my first peer review, I was assigned to Baker Al-Naikb blog- www.bakeralnakib.com. Baker’s blog was very interesting, unique and had a totally different vibe from my blog. His blog was intended to inform audiences on doing ‘How to’ and different tutorials that the audience can learn from. I could definitely identify his cyber infrastructure since it’s so distinct and unique. The blog is very simple, yet well outlined and straightforward. I could tell that his blog is for certain type of audience and is not for everyone.

I really liked how he had a logo (on the top left corner) since it looked like it could portray him in real life. The overall theme of the website was very high tech looking, almost like he was running a small business by himself. His cyber infrastructure is very easy to define and detectable from his blog because his blog is very clear on whom he is and what his aim is for his audience. I could surely tell that he is very confident on his learnings and his work. In addition, I liked how he included ‘Contact’ section because since this is a blog where he is teaching and giving information to his audience, it allows the viewers to reach him when they had questions about his tutorials and provide him to build a further relationship.

The things he could improve on for his blog may be, adding more information on ‘About me’ section. I think he could add more things to structure his cyber infrastructure, perhaps more personal information about him so the readers could feel more connected with him. I think as of right now, he is the teacher and his audience are students, which could break the building of deeper and closer relationship with his readers. Also, I think he can add more content or attract viewers to come back in the future, rather than telling his audience: “this is the information, receive it and consume it”. A simple saying such as “Come back later for further projects and information” could make the viewers want to come back more and help him build his own community online. However, I don’t think he has yet to put up much content on his website or at least when I was writing this peer review because I couldn’t detect much. I could definitely tell that by creating his blog, it “…helps students build their own digital portfolio… [that] can contain text, images, video, and audio recordings, giving students opportunities to express themselves in a variety of ways beyond the traditional pen-and-paper test or essay” (Derakhshan, 2015) because he was very creative and had a very distinct cyber infrastructure.

Kobe Japanese Steakhouse

Hello to all the foodies out there!

I wanted to share my experience to the Kobe Japanese Steakhouse located at downtown Vancouver on 1042 Alberni St.  It’s located in a great spot, although it’s surrounded by the the famous Glowbal Restaurant Group. This restaurant is a fine dining restaurant along with the expensive price, however it’s not just about the food you eat. It’s about the experience you have at the restaurant. Kobe offers a teppanyaki, authentic Japanese style and the interior and the vibe the restaurant it gives is surely an authentic Japanese style- perhaps a short dip into Japan.

This was my first time going to the restaurant but it was my boyfriend’s 21st birthday, so we wanted to go somewhere special that we haven’t been to. Out of the many choices we had, we decided to go to Kobe because we wanted try the food as well as experience the teppanyaki style cooking, right in front of us. The tables are very small and tightly packed because for each table, there is a teppanyaki grill in the middle of the table that the chef cooks. It was quite an interesting and unique experience that we had at the restaurant because the chef interacts with the customers a lot and make funny jokes, shows off different skills and such. The food was incredible even though I’m not a huge steak person. The seafood they had were amazing and the steak was very different, in a good way compared to a regular steak that you’ll eat at The Keg.

Here are some pictures of the food:

Overall, this place was a great restaurant, despite the price tag, the experience and the service we had was amazing. I would rate this restaurant as 4.5/5 !

Process Post #2: The Online Self

Hello Everyone!

This is my second process post and I can definitely say that I have got used to more things, in terms of creating the blog that satisfies my expectations compared to last week’s process. As it took me quite some time to learn this new WordPress style of blogging, after playing with it for hours, I have learned what I needed to do. Also, I changed multiple themes because I realized the themes have different default of how the website is going to look like and the overall image. I have made my mind to stick with my ‘Olsen Light’ theme since it suits the image of simplicity and minimalist look.

To make my blog more visually appearing, I decided to create menus to help organize where I want my different posts to go. I have created different menus such as : Home, About, Blog Posts and Posiel. In ‘Blog Posts’, I will place my regular major content of my life. In the ‘Posiel’ section, I will post my weekly process posts, peer review assignments and essays that are required for my PUB 101 class.

What I wish to accomplish by next week is create a front page for my default home, make my sidebar more useful, perhaps putting my ‘About’ section there so it’s easier for users to look and be informed about me. Also, I would like to add more visuals to my blog in general because as of now, there’s lot of text and more visuals will be more appealing and attract more readers. Moreover, I will have to choose one of my social media that I’m going to promote my blog, which will probably be Facebook or Instagram. I do already have my Instagram connected to my blog, so if my readers desire to take a look at my Instagram, it’s easy accessible for them.

The reading “How I got my attention back” by Craig Mod made me think about my personal attention in my life. With the increase use of social media, I definitely realized that whatever I was doing, I had a thought of posting something on Snapchat or Instagram. Even when I go to concerts, nowadays, people are all busy filming on their smartphones to catch the moment, however it’s arguable that people are missing out of the actual moment. I admit that I have hard time staying away from my phone as I’m constantly on it everyday, but one thing I always try to avoid is starting off my day on my phone. I usually try to stay away from social media in the mornings because I think it’s better for my brain and my whole day in general to start off. I think I could be offline for a month if the conditions satisfied me, everyone else off their phone or I was at a place where there was no service or internet. However, it’s arguable to think about what I would spend all my spare time doing.

Anyways, thanks everyone for reading and I hope I made more progress by next week.

Process Post #1: Cyber Infrastructure

Hello Everyone!

First of all… If you are reading this, thank you for joining me in my journey to blogging my life 🙂

As this is my very first process post, I’m definitely a little nervous since this is my actual first post that I will be posting on my blog. As I heard from my friends who took this class before (PUB 101), I heard that you had to make a blog for this course and to me, it sounded so much fun. I always wanted to know how I can make my own blog and create my online world. As I follow many beauty and fashion bloggers on Youtube, social medias and such, I always wondered on how their work was done and I personally wanted to learn since it will be a great skill to have for my career in the future.

I started with making my vision board of my cyber infrastructure. I asked myself, “How do I want my blog to look like?” and “How much do I want to share my personal life online?” At first, it was difficult trying to figure out the balance of how much I wanted to share online and the real me. Obviously, I want to be portrayed as a person with a nice, perfect imaged person but that’s not who I am in real life. So I started to think about the things that I want to post on my blog. I knew I wanted to do a lifestyle blog where I can post anything about my life, whether it’s the things I’m interested in, what I am doing and much more. I didn’t want to limit the audience to specific group of people because that could potentially make some readers uncomfortable and feel not belonged. I wanted to make a blog where anyone can come and join to see what my life is about and what my true interests were. Therefore, for my vision board, I was jotting down what I wanted to post on my blog and the main themes of how I wanted it to look like. I kept it very simple and straight to the point, just like how I wanted my blog to be like. I will surely be adding more things as I go along since this is just my first draft to help me start my cyber infrastructure.

For our blogs, we were required to use Reclaim Hosting to create our URL and use WordPress for our blogs. Both platforms were very simple and easy to use although I had some difficulties trying to figure it out at first. After setting everything up, I had the choice to choose my themes and design my blog. It was very stressful and difficult to choose a theme and design a blog where it matched to the image I had in my head. Ultimately, I chose the theme ‘Olsen Light’ because I loved the simplistic, minimalist blog look that I wanted. I was having troubles setting up my blog with different menus, front page and the overall customization of the blog because this was my very first time setting up a blog. Since I had somewhat specific image of how I wanted my cyber infrastructure to look like, it was quite stressful to tweak every single bits to what I wanted to look like. However, after playing with the customization for a while, I got the hang of it and started to get used to what I was doing. As I am not 100% happy with what my blog looks like right, this is only the start of it and I will definitely make changes as I need in the future.

Also, for inspirations, I looked at my favourite bloggers that I followed to see how their blogs were set up and the overall theme of the site.

Here are few of my favourite bloggers that I’ve looked for inspiration:

I hope you guys enjoyed reading this post, THANK YOU.
